Painting update 5 May

More work on my Flintloque collection - Todoroni and Joccian Highlanders.

Todroni noble (jacket in Vallejo 959 Purple, trousers in 957 Flat Red) and Todoroni officer, singer and standard bearer. With the areas of these to be in black (shoes, bicornes and gaiters) 'm experimenting with using dark brown or grey and then using a black wash over to see if that produces the effect that I want. These still need the black applied over the Vallejo 822 Camouflage Black Brown and 995 German Grey.

The muskets have now been painted on the troopers with 875 Beige Brown for the woodwork and 863 Gunmetal over black for metal areas.

Joccians - private, officer, drummer and standard bearer - I've used 984 Flat Brown for their fur with 957 Flat Red for the uniforms. There are another two privates that aren't included in this shot.

Orcs with the leader's sash painted in Flat Red with an Oxford Blue shirt and the back banner painted.

All nearing completion and time for varnishing and basing.

My latest wargames project

Flintloque - fantasy napoleonic skirmish level gaming

The picture shows some of my first set of figures for these rules - Nepolise Todoroni. I've started painting these up in white uniforms, with the initial base coat as grey then a paler grey shade above and a white highlight as shown in the following pictures.

The paints used so far are Citadel Foundation Kharlog Green for the skin, Iyaden Darksun for the eyes and Vallejo 992 Neutral Grey as the base for the white clothing. The final appearance will have white uniforms with black bicornes, boots, leggings and equipment and white webbing. The facings will be in amaranth to add a splash of colour.

Officer from 56505 Bella Lugosi militia and noble from VLE07 Artist Goyah

Singer, Standard Bearer and Sergeant from Bella Lugosi militia.

I'll do some more posts in the next few days showing the painting progress.

Gaming update - February/March

Finding the time to write to my blog has been tricky recently as I've been working long hours and having to fit in various things domestically as well.

This has meant that I've had little time to do much miniatures work, but I have been able to keep up with my play by post RPG where I'm playing in a number of D&D games - one in a homebrew world of the DM's devising, one in the Wilderlands of High Fantasy and the other in the Dark Sun setting. The other pbp games that I'm playing in are 1920s Call of Cthulhu set in Edinburgh and a RuneQuest game that is currently on hiatus. I'm also looking at joining in a couple more RQ games online.

On the miniatures front I've got a couple of new projects in my mind using figures from Alternative Armies. The first is to actually finish off the Sidhe (Irish Elves) that I have had knocking around for many years and get some Formorians as opposition using the Erin rules. The other is to give Flintloque a try and I've picked up some Todoroni miniatures and the free Flitloque light rules towards that end. My WWII figures will be getting progressed soon as they are close to me having a couple of squads for the US and Germans allowing a game to get played.
